Poem from The Mended Animal
Two Weeks After I Fired My Sponsor Through Telepathy
what I fear most is winding up back in inpatient. Sunday afternoons, visitation, sitting by a window alone in the foyer. A receptionist peeking from behind the counter every few minutes, all nosy. Or I’m at the picnic tables closest to the front gate, smelling sunbaked lawn and cigarettes. Chin in my hands like a kid waiting after school. I slowly realize no one is coming, and they didn’t forget.
